Nordic Beauty Peat
Nordic Beauty Peat is a pure natural product from Finland, nothing has been added and nothing has been extracted from it. It is rich in biologically active substances, with high quantities of humic and fulvic acids. It also contains bio-minerals, trace elements, vitamins, amino acids and fatty acids, which are bioavailable to the human skin.
Peat originates in swamp, where it has been naturally developed during hundreds of years. Finnish nature is unique due to its short summers with long days and long winters with freezing temperatures. Therefore the plants have a short but intense growth season and due to high proton content, they are much richer in nutrients than plants grown elsewhere. These plants have been naturally macerated by microbial action resulting in high concentration of active substances. Hundreds of herbs, flowers and plants undergoing the extraordinary chemical transformation by biological degradation of organic materials through biochemical processes are now replenishing the peat. The unique molecular structure of the substance is so fine that it penetrates the skin and rejuvenates cells.
Application Areas : The use of peat has a long tradition in spa medicine and rheumatology known as balneotherapy. Masks and body care wraps are the most common formulations in which nordic beauty peat is used in cosmetic applications. It can also be used in hand and foot treatments, in bath products, hair and scalp treatments.
Formulating : When formulating with nordic beauty peat, it should never dry, as it is very difficult to re-hydrate once irreversible coagulation of humic acid substances has taken place and peat will loose a lot of its activity. When formulating a mask, the consistency should be such during the application that it would not dry out during the treatment; otherwise the mask will be very difficult to wash off.
It should be noted that the activity of humic acids will drop sharply in presence of oil phase as the layer of oily substance will coat humic acid agglomerates, and prevents the bioactive skin interaction of the humic acid substances.
During the formulation process, peat should not be heated to above 60°C as many of the bioactive compounds in the peat will be destroyed.
